Contribute to the fund for the family of Evaldo dos Santos Rosa, brutally murdered by Rio de Janeiro’s Army

The musician and security guard Evaldo dos Santos Rosa was murdered last Sunday (4/7) by the Brazilian Army, in front of his 7-year-old son and his wife, Luciana. All donations raised through this crowdfunding will be fully directed to a support fund for the wife and child.

Make your contribution now. Let’s show there are many people who care about this family’s pain and are willing to support them.

We know a fund will never relieve this family’s pain, but it can provide some support. At this moment, money should not be another source of concern for them - but the loss of Evaldo also leaves a financial gap for those who counted with the income he provided.
We also know it’s the State’s responsibility to financially support those who suffer on their hands, and there are lots of families who lost their beloved ones through State and police violence. Evaldo’s family is seeking justice, but authorities are already giving signs they will try to avoid this responsibility. Anyways this is a slow process, and the family is in a hurry.
Contributing to this fund is a way of giving a quick answer to an immediate problem - and showing authorities this family isn’t alone. We will show there are many people who care that justice is made to this and so many other people who suffer in the hands of a violent and racist State.

Affection and solidarity are also means of resistance;

Why is Meu Rio proposing this?

Unfortunately, it’s not recent news of citizens suffering in the hands of a violent and racist State. Meu Rio knows it’s a structural problem and has been mobilizing people towards more justice and less violence and impunity for over seven years. Some examples are the campaigns for the justice demilitarization, for the ADPF 289 and against the “license to kill”.

What Evaldo’s family is living today is a consequence of a series of inefficient public policies that have made thousands of victims like him, leaving many other families forlorn. Today, Meu Rio is proposing this crowdfunding as a way of giving an immediate and collective answer to support this specific family whose pain symbolizes that of so many others.
